Rainforest depletion due to palm oil plantations is a major problem in Sumatra. It not only leads to economic problems for locals but is detrimental to the wide range of species who call this place home.

Orangutans are one of these endangered species, and, to date, their population has declined by over 60%. Orangutan human conflict leaves these animals in a precarious position.

The Orangutan Information Centre is helping to rescue and create a safe, protected, natural home for orangutans and other species at risk. They help educate the general public, renew the land that has been depleted and provide jobs for local community members.
