Ben Marans is a professional photographer based in Hong Kong. His passion lies in helping to tell the stories of those putting people and the planet first. With more than two decades of experience in the non-profit sector, he provides impactful images and strategic insights on using them to help drive marketing objectives and social change.

Ben is an accredited member of the Hong Kong Press Photographers' Association and he regularly shoots for SOPA Images. Ben's work has been featured in The Globe And Mail, The New York TimesToronto Star, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Hong Kong Free Press, Coconuts Hong Kong, and the South China Morning Post.    

In 2020,Ben  was shortlisted for the Justice Centre Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize for his series Seeing Beyond the Teargas, a selection of images highlighting some of the untold stories behind the 2019 Hong Kong protests. His work was also published in Defiance, a documentary book about the 2019 protest movement.

Ben works with many NGOs in Hong Kong and in Canada, including JAYU, an innovative, Canadian charity that trains and inspires other photographers through workshops and mentorship programs, https://kely.org/KELY Support Group, ImpactHK, the Foreign Correspondents’ Club Hong Kong, and Alliance Française de Hong Kong.

In 2021, Ben directed a dedicated team to bring the World Press Photo Exhibition to Hong Kong for the first time in several years. Together, the team secured project funding, coordinated venue logistics, and oversaw a team of journalism students who delivered more than 70 guided tours to more than 10,000 visitors during a two-week period.
